School librarians’ Seminar

The School Librarians’ Seminar
It was for a total of 20 ladies and gentlemen from government, private schools and community libraries. These were from the suburbs of the city. The seminar was organized in a hotel in the middle city for easy transport services.
We had planned to hold it at the Uganda Museum Hall which was under renovation at the time. We believed that if we waited for its completion, we will have delayed it until next year.
Secondly, most teachers and librarian rarely visit hotels.
To some of them, it could have been their first time in such a place. This builds on their exposure besides unlearning their old ways and adopting new ways.

We listened and watched beautiful videos from the Literacy Cloud. In the attached link, one of the participants read a story as the others listened.
This website has free stories that the librarians could read to the children during their library lessons. Most of them subscribed to the website. This increases reading materials both for the schools and communities. Subscription is free making it easy for everyone to enjoy the stories in different languages.
You could also visit the site and enjoy the stories https://literacycloud.org/
The selection of the presentations and group activities left the participants yearning for more.

The most interesting part of the day is when Ms. Annette asked the participants which age group they always read to. Most of them agreed that primary one and two children enjoy the read aloud stories more than the rest of the learners.
When Ms. Immaculate and Master Immanuel were presenting on the literacy cloud, a participant was asked to do a read aloud of one of the stories. They never wanted her to stop. They therefore, agreed that everyone enjoys being read to.
